What to Expect:
Get ready for a truly exclusive and intimate journey around Resurrection Bay. Our custom-built landing craft, designed for easy beach access, will take you on a smooth cruise where you can soak in the pristine beauty of Alaska’s coastline. Explore fascinating beaches, where you can discover old WWII pilings and structures, visit a lagoon teeming with sea critters, and watch otters foraging for their next snack. Or venture to a secluded beach rarely visited by others, perfect for finding hidden treasures and participating in a beach cleanup. After cruising the bay and exploring one or two of these stunning beaches, you have the option to hike to Fort McGilvray. Your guide will accompany you, ensuring you don’t miss any of the fascinating history or scenic views along the way. They’ll lead you through the underground bunker and up to a stunning vantage point offering breathtaking views of Resurrection Bay.
Your Adventure Itinerary:
- 5:30 AM – Check-in: Arrive early to meet our friendly staff at our store and café facility at Lowell Point. Enjoy a hot cup of coffee, complete your waiver, and get ready for an unforgettable day on the water!
- 6:00 AM – Set Sail! Hop aboard the Michael A, our custom-built landing craft designed to handle both rugged coastlines and smooth seas. In our 16-passenger vessel (rated for 25) you’ll enjoy a comfortable, personalized experience.
- 7:00 AM – First Beach Landing: Your journey begins with a beach landing at one of the spectacular locations we’ve selected for you. Whether you’re exploring Fox Island Spit, Thumb Cove, or the northern beach of Caines Head, these pristine areas offer incredible wildlife watching, tide pooling, and even a chance to take part in a beach cleanup, where you can help collect flotsam and jetsam and contribute to the preservation of Alaska’s beaches.
- 8:00 AM – Explore Cape Resurrection: After your beach exploration, we’ll cruise past the stunning Cape Resurrection, home to seabird colonies, sea lion haul-outs, and wildlife like harbor seals, Dall’s porpoises, and even the majestic mountain goats. Get up close and personal with the incredible geology of the region, including the famed pillow basalts of Cape Resurrection and the enchanting Spire Cove. Keep your eyes peeled for humpback whales, orcas, and other marine life as we make our way toward Bear Glacier.
- 9:00 AM – Optional Hiking Adventure: If you’re up for a more active experience, disembark at Caines Head State Park for a guided hike to the historic WWII Fort McGilvray. This moderately challenging hike offers stunning views of the surrounding area, with a well-maintained trail that ascends 650 feet over 2 miles to the fort. Along the way, you’ll learn about the area’s rich history from your knowledgeable guide. The hike takes about 2 hours, and we’ll pick you up at 1:30 PM for a return trip to Miller’s Landing by 1:50 PM.OR9:50 AM – Return to Miller’s Landing: If hiking isn’t on your agenda, you’ll return to Miller’s Landing by 9:50 AM, leaving you plenty of time to explore Seward’s SeaLife Center, enjoy a delicious brunch at our café, or simply take in the beauty of your surroundings.

Thumb Cove is a great location with three alpine glaciers, berry picking in August, WWII pilings and if it’s safe, you can land at the northern most beach and access a secret waterfall. Caines Head is where you start the hike, but it’s also a good beach to walk. It was a lagoon, secret waterfall, berries, and you can walk the start of the trail to get a pretty view of the old dock.8:00 AM: Load up on the boat and cruise past Cape Resurrection, marveling at the seabird nesting colonies, sea lion haul-outs, and other wildlife like mountain goats, harbor seals, Dall’s porpoises, and whales. Visit Spire Cove and view the grandeur of Bear Glacier beyond its terminal moraine.
9:00 AM: If you are hiking, you will get dropped off around 9 am at Caines Head State Park. It’s just over 2 miles to the top (5 miles round trip). With a 650-foot elevation gain. The trail is well maintained and is set in the stunning Chugach Forest. Be sure to pack comfortable shoes, snacks, a lunch and water for this hike. Your trip also ends at the Miller’s Landing office which also has a cafe! After hiking the water taxi will pick you up at 1:30 PM, returning to Miller’s Landing by 1:50 PM.
