- 5:30 AM: Check in at our store and café facility on Lowell Point. Grab a coffee, complete your waiver, and get ready for your adventure!6:00 AM: Depart aboard the Michael A, our custom-built landing craft designed for easy beach access. We have both 6 and 16 passenger vessels.7:00 AM: Make your first beach landing at Fox Island Spit, Thumb Cove, or the North Beach of Caines Head for a short nature exploration and discussion. Fox Island Spit is a unique pebbled spit with a lagoon at the center. Great for tiding pooling, bird watching, and offers a great view of the Gulf. Thumb Cove is a great location with three alpine glaciers, berry picking in August, WWII pilings and if it’s safe, you can land at the northern most beach and access a secret waterfall. Caines Head is where you start the hike, but it’s also a good beach to walk. It was a lagoon, secret waterfall, berries, and you can walk the start of the trail to get a pretty view of the old dock.8:00 AM: Load up on the boat and cruise past Cape Resurrection, marveling at the seabird nesting colonies, sea lion haul-outs, and other wildlife like mountain goats, harbor seals, Dall’s porpoises, and whales. Visit Spire Cove and view the grandeur of Bear Glacier beyond its terminal moraine.
9:00 AM: If you are hiking, you will get dropped off around 9 am at Caines Head State Park. It’s just over 2 miles to the top (5 miles round trip). With a 650-foot elevation gain. The trail is well maintained and is set in the stunning Chugach Forest. Be sure to pack comfortable shoes, snacks, a lunch and water for this hike.
