The Kenai Gold Prospector

A full day adventure combining our scenic float and an introduction to prospecting for gold.

  • 9 hours – $289 per person plus tax
  • Daily departures at 8 a.m.

The day begins at Prospector John’s with a short lesson to get you familiar with the sluice box and gold panning techniques… then we gear up and board the raft heading for a small stream that flows into the Kenai River.

There you and your guide walk a few hundred yards upstream to our chosen gravel bar and set up to find some gold. We never know what to expect for gold, sometimes it is, “WOW! Look what we got!”.And then there are other times, that aren’t so wow…

After you put the gold you have found into your poke, you walk back down to the river to rejoin the raft trip.

The scenic float continues through a section of the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge and not only shows off the beauty of the Upper Kenai River Valley but also all of it’s wildlife & abundant bird life. We often see moose or bear and almost always dall sheep and mountain goats on the ridges above the river. Eagle nests abound so it is a rare trip when we don’t see them – often young eagles are on the nest testing their wings in the middle of the summer…

This serene stretch of river is fun and safe for all ages & abilities. All gear is provided.
