Where the Fish Are
Hike-In Options:
Extras: Additional tackle, lunch or
snacks. Tonsina Hike: suggest $15/waders |
Lowell Point: There's a mile of good beach fishing on
Lowell Point, sometimes South Beach has the action, then it will shift
to the Miller's Landing area. These fish are trying to "sense" the
streams they came from, but the water temperature and amount of water in
the streams is also critical. |
Tonsina:
An easy hike from Miller’s Landing and well
worth it. There is a good salmon stream with pink and
chum salmon in it from late June through September.
There is also a picnic shelter area. In late June, July, August and
September, there are salmon spawning in the stream. You can
fish from the beach here for salmon in late June through
September for pink, chum and silver salmon as well as Dolly Varden
(Arctic Char). Silver salmon are caught here in late July and
August, even though this is not their normal spawning grounds. If
you hike-in, our guide will meet you at Tonsina at a preset time.
|
Shuttle-In Options:Extras: $15/waders, $15/shuttle or use local taxi, $5/person access fee, extra lures, snag hooks,
lunch or snacks. |
|
Resurrection Bay at the River mouth: Have Dolly Varden,
Silver, Pink and Chum salmon, you always have action shore fishing
here. Easy access and lots of fun. Suggest proper
clothing, hip-boots or waders, and lunch packed in a backpack, we'll
be fishing the incoming tide at times. |
|
|
|
Resurrection River: Here too we have Dolly Varden, Silver,
Pink and Chum salmon - hook up a fly and go for them! We know
where the Fish and Game markers are in the river so we're always
fishing legally. Many of the salmon migrate up this river to
the lakes and streams they were spawned in - they still have firm
flesh and haven't changed color, good eating, canning and pickling
meat. Suggest proper clothing, hip-boots or
waders, and lunch packed in a backpack. |

Caine's Head & Derby Cove: We'll drop you off at Derby Cove (one cove north of Caine’s Head beach,
The Derby Cove Public Use Cabin is near the beach) and you have the option of continuing to hike the beach trail around to
North Beach and Caine’s Head or we can drop you at North Beach. At North Beach there are 2 picnic
shelters, campsites and latrines near the main trail. A ranger station, staffed seasonally, is located near the north
end of the beach. At Caine's Head the shale covered, forest framed beaches
have long been stopping points for boaters and fishermen.
Callisto: Another out-of-the-way beach awaits you,
across from Sunny Cove (on Fox Island). There are no trails or facilities here, so be prepared!
The shore fishing consists of chum, pinks, Reds, Silvers and Dolly
Varden. This area is uninhabited all year and has a sense of
solitude not found in most accessible places.. |
Thumb Cove: There’s good salmon fishing,
as the cove has it's own salmon stream. Expect to get your
limit of six salmon per person per day if fishing in late June
through early September. You must fish from the beach into the salt
water as the salmon are protected in their salmon spawning grounds,
the stream. It is very pretty here, lots of berries and there
are miles of beach to fish.
Sunny Cove: Sunny Cove is located on Fox Island, about 13 water miles south of
Seward, and is a very good destination for camping overnight if you are
kayaking, or just camping overnight. There are beautiful pristine
beaches and lush rainforest environments for hiking, as well as tall
wooded areas. There is good salmon fishing for silver salmon from Mid
July through August at Sunny Cove from the beach.
Fox Island Spit:
Located on the North end of Fox Island.
During the summer months of mid-July,
and August there are also good fishing opportunities for salmon
right off the beach, as well as excellent beachcombing. |
