Alaska SeaLife Center

The Alaska SeaLife Center is a non-profit marine science facility dedicated to understanding and maintaining the integrity of the marine ecosystem of Alaska through research, rehabilitation and public education. The Center’s research facilities and naturalistic exhibits immerse visitors in the dynamic marine ecosystems of Alaska.

 The Alaska SeaLife Center is located 3 miles from Miller’s landing.

The Alaska SeaLife Center is Open Year Round
April 15th through September 15th
8:00 am to 7 pm
September 16th through April 14th
10:00 am to 5:00 pm

Alaska Sealife Center Hours for 2008
 

 

Summer Hours:

May 1 – Sept 14, 2008, open 9:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m., with last ticket sold at 6:00 p.m. (open at 8am on days Cruise Ships are in port)

Open 7 days per week including holidays

 

 

Winter Hours:

Winter: Sept 15, 2008 – April 30, 2009, open 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Closed on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day

Behind the Scene Tour (1 hour 15 min. tour)

(12 people max.) Ages 12 and up only. Go beyond the public exhibit areas of the Center and take advantage of the unique opportunity to investigate the different labs where scientists conduct research. You will get an in-depth perspective on the Center's past and ongoing marine wildlife research and rehabilitation projects. 14 days of advance reservations required.

Octopus Experience (1 Hour)

(4 people max.) Ages 10 and up only. Learn about the unique anatomy and behavior of the Giant Pacific Octopus as you get an up-close and personal experience with this mysterious animal.

Puffin Encounter (1 hour):

(4 people max.)1 hour tour of bird curatorial includes assisting our aviary staff with feeding the seabirds, must be able to stand, kneel and walk on uneven surfaces. Help feed our seabirds inside their avian habitat while learning interesting facts about our flock of seabirds, including our favorite diving birds, the Tufted Puffin and Horned Puffin.14 days of advance reservations required.

Puffin Experience(60 Min. Max.)

(4 people max.)1 hour interactive classroom style program with avian staff -Get up close and personal with Puffins 9am daily. Custom times available. 14 days of advance reservations required.

Cephalopods Family Program (Time determined by group)

(4 person min.) Geared toward ages 10 and up. Dissect a squid and learn about cephalopods (squid and octopus) 14 days of advance reservations required.

Marine Mammal Family Program
 

(4 person min.) Ages 3 and up. Hands-on activities teach about Alaska’s marine mammals. Immerse your children in our interactive program as they discover how marine mammals are designed to live in Alaska's cold waters. What keeps those Seals warm? How does that Sea Lion stay under water so long? 14 days of advance reservations required.

Twilight Tour
 

(4 person min., 10 person max.) Ages 3 and up.
Hands-on activities teach about Alaska’s marine mammals. Imagine being the only guests in the SeaLife Center! This program takes place after closing so you have your very own private program. After enjoying a picnic style dinner among our marine animals, an interpreter will walk you through our facility. Includes admission to the SeaLife Center the next day. 14 days of advance reservations required.

  • $100 per person(need to buy the general admission ticket also)


Sealife Center Cancellation Policy:


1) 14 days or more in advance: no penalty

2) 2-14 days in advance: 50% of anticipated admissions and related fees

3) 0-1 days in advance: 100% of anticipated admissions and related fees

4) Self-guided tours will be excluded from these cancellation fees only during the summer season. Due to additional staff required for large groups during the winter season, the cancellation policy and fees may apply to Self-guided tours from Sept. 15 – April 30.

There is also a $15 non refundable change/cancellation fee.
 

Under booking and Late Arrivals Policy:

An additional fee of $5 will be added to the published per person fee for any individuals over the total number in the reservation without at least 24 hours notice.
 



 
Free wheelchairs are available for those touring the center. The Alaska SeaLife Center offers an unrivaled, up-close and personal experience with the Gulf of Alaska marine wildlife. Witness a 2000+ pound Steller Sea Lion gliding past underwater viewing windows, puffins diving in a carefully crafted naturalistic habitat, and harbor seals resting on rocky beaches. Alaskan king crab, sea star, and the Giant Pacific octopus also await you, as well as a whole variety of intertidal creatures and deep sea fishes.

 The Alaska Sealife Center is located at Milepost 0 of the Seward Highway in spectacular Seward, Alaska, just 125 miles south of Anchorage.
