Seward
is a fisherman's paradise.
Our saltwater fishing charters target world class Halibut, Rockfish,
Ling Cod and Silver Salmon along one of Alaska's most beautiful
coastlines...Kenai Fjords National Park. Miller’s Landing specializes in
six person charters for a more personalized, private, and less
competitive fishing experience. We will book a charter with just two
persons and will commit to taking them out, even if we don’t fill the
other 4 spots on our "six pack" boat. On our full-day charters we often
fish until everyone has a chance of his or her limit of halibut or
salmon, quite often a 10-12-hour day. We
also book most of the other boats in our area, (several that take up to
22 passengers) and have
more than one fishing boat going out daily. So if you have a large
group, we can often take them out in a twelve party boat, a sixteen pack
boat, a twenty-two party boat or two or more six pack
boats and still fish the same area together. . We provide all the
fishing gear, bait and fish filleting. When you fish with Miller’s
Landing Captains, you'll enjoy a day complete with sight seeing and top
of the line fishing with an experienced captain a knowledgeable, helpful
deckhand who assists you with anything you might need.
“We spent 3 days at Miller's Landing in
Seward Alaska. The charter from Miller's Landing to the Gulf of
Alaska was incredible. Just like their web-site says, we caught
Halibut, Rock Fish, Red Snapper, Ling Cod, and Salmon.
Captain Mike and his deck hand Trapper
Scotty were the best!
They
made our trip more than we could have hoped for. They knew
exactly where to catch each species of fish and what to use.
Everyone limited out each day on all species we fished for. And
even after a long day of fishing, when we returned to Miller's
Landing at the end of the day, Captain Mike and Trapper Scotty
hung up our fish, let us take photos, cleaned, skinned, filleted
and prepared our fish for processing.
Not only are they great fisherman and
seamen, they went out of there way to make sure we had a great
time. In addition to all the fish we caught, the sights were
incredible. We saw Hump-Back Whale, Shark, Porpoise, Seal, and
many other species of marine life. By far, this was the best
vacation of my life...an experience my boys and I will never
forget.
I want to thank Captain Mike, Trapper
Scotty and the entire staff at Miller's Landing for making this
a great vacation, and I highly recommend them to anyone
considering a trip to Alaska for deep sea fishing. You will find
none better.”

Every trip on a Miller’s Landing Charteris
a spectacular sightseeing excursion as your captain guides your fishing
vessel along the coast of Resurrection Bay into the Gulf of Alaska and
through the beautiful Kenai Fjords National Park. We regularly see
whales, sea otters, Stellar sea lions, and an incredible variety of sea
birds. You’ll see glaciers flowing out of the vast Harding Ice field,
bird rookeries alive with thousands of nesting seabirds and rocky
islands covered with barking Stellar sea lions. Humpback Whales are
often seen on our fishing charters, as well as seals, Orcas, Dall
Porpoise, black bear, mountain goats, eagles, and other wildlife.
Explore the mystical untouched fjords, highlighted with alpine, piedmont
and tidewater glaciers, cascading waterfalls, tidewater caves and
pristine beaches at the same time that we fish for giant halibut or
feisty acrobatic silver salmon. . You’ll appreciate your Captain’s
knowledge of the best spots for fishing, wildlife and bird viewing.
Remember when you fish on a Miller's Landing boat your first night of
fish freezing is complimentary!

Seward: Miller's Landing: "Good People; Good
Fishing"

By chance we were recommended to the Millers by Kate's B&B. in
1999. We fished with Capt. Mike Miller for 5 days and had a
wonderful time. Regardless of weather or sea conditions Capt.
Mike provided us with quality fishing and fish. In 2001, we
returned to Miller's Landing and stayed for 10 days. We "camped"
in one of their cabins and used Millers Landing as our base.
Besides three or four days of quality fishing with Capt. Mike,
we toured the surrounding area, went dog sledding up on the
glacier. toured the glaciers, shopped in Seward and had a
wonderful time. I'm sure my two grandsons will never forget
their first halibut. I know I will always treasure that trip. We
also took advantage of their small boat rentals, on two
occasions we rented a skiff and fished the mouths of glaciers
for salmon. What fun. I was sorry to learn that the old marina
was lost by fire, but I'm sure that the new will be bigger and
better. Our hats off to our new found friends Capt. Mike Miller
and Capt. Sherrie Miller. Hopefully we can make it to our
"northern home" again this year.

Once on the fishing grounds,
you will have the opportunity to catch some of the best eating fish in
the ocean. Your captain will instruct you on the proper method to fish
for halibut, ling cod, black bass, or salmon. Your hook will be baited,
dropped into the sea and you are ready to catch a fish.
We
often move around
to different fishing spots or may stay in the same spot all day,
depending on the weather and the fishing conditions. Sometimes the
captains will drop anchor but generally, they will drift with the
current. You will be fishing where the water depth will range from 50
feet to 600 feet, but most likely you will fish in 100 feet to 300 feet
of water. When you have arrived back at Miller’s Landing, our Miller’ s
Landing boat crew will haul the fish up to the fish cleaning tables
where we will hang them up to take pictures of you with your catch, then
we will clean and fillet the fish for you. You do not have to touch or
carry anything but your personal gear. You are more than welcome to help
clean your catch, if you prefer but after seeing the pros at work most
decide to watch. Although
fish cleaning is complimentary, it is customary to tip the crew whatever
seems appropriate for the amount of fish cleaned and time taken to clean
them. Please remember your captain and deckhand put in a long day,
trying to make your fishing trip the best ever, and many deckhands work
for tips.
Our
goal is
for each person to catch his or her limit of halibut or salmon. Halibut
fillet out at about 60 % of their live weight. If you are lucky you may
catch one that weighs more than 100 lbs. Now, that’s a lot of fish and
chips! Plus you have the added bonus of viewing all the beautiful
scenery of the Kenai Fjords and Alaskan wildlife. Does it get any better
than this?
After you have your fish filleted,
you can arrange to have your fish vacuum packed and frozen, if you like.
There are three local processors in town, all of them are good. If you
are on one of the Miller's Landing boats we include the first night of
fish freezing free of charge. If you
are not leaving that day, they can hold your processed fish until you
are ready to go home. If you have brought your own coolers, pack the
fish into them for the car/plane ride home or have the fish processors
pack the fish in insulated boxes. If you are flying home, the least
costly way is to use your own coolers and take the fish, vacuum packed
and frozen, as baggage on your flight home. Just make sure you wrap the
coolers properly so that they do not come open during the trip.
Remember that they may have to be opened and inspected at the airport!!
You can take the fish that are packed in insulated boxes as baggage
also. If you prefer to ship the fish separately, the fish processors
will arrange for them to be shipped via Federal Express or UPS.
The can even time the shipping to arrive after you have returned home.
Each spring we send a newsletter out to
our customers, advising them of what’s new about the up coming fishing
season. Please let us know if you would like to be on our mailing list.
