Three Alpine Glacier Kayak Paddle: (3
Hour Tour)
paddles
in all of Alaska! The Alpine Glacier paddle is an exceptional half day
paddle offered in beautiful calm waters. It is exclusive to Miller’s
Landing. Our 3 hour Alpine paddle includes taking our custom built
comfortable water taxi across Resurrection Bay to the remote waters of
beautiful Thumb Cove located on the
eastern side of Resurrection Bay.
This is an area often referred to by locals as the "Little Switzerland"
with it's 3 alpine glaciers, beautiful waterfalls, a salmon stream with
leaping salmon and bald eagles lurching overhead, and delicious
blueberries (in season). It is common to see sea otters, sea lions and
sometimes beautiful orcas or humpbacks or black bears while paddling.
There are beautiful ghost forests near the salmon stream (a result of
the 1964 Alaskan earthquake). About twenty five minutes (each way) of
this tour is a water taxi ride where we try to find wildlife (sea
otters, sea lions, orca whales, humpback, eagles and more). The other
two hours are spent circumventing the beautiful emerald green cove,
paddling in a calm, serene waters, ideal for any athletic level, old or
young alike. (There is no experience needed for this paddle). The water
taxi is a very comfortable landing craft and is so much fun!

AM to Noon
The Puffin Paddle/Hike is a unique paddle
only offered by Miller's Landing. It is very popular with birders and
naturalists. Kayakers paddle from beautiful Miller's Landing area of
Lowell Point to Caines Head
State
park on the western side of Resurrection Bay and enjoy a one way water
taxi back watching for wildlife both ways. Paddlers will paddle past
Bridal Veil Falls, a beautiful cascading waterfall. Traversing further,
we paddle past Tonsina Creek where Salmon are spawning in season and a
beautiful driftwood ghost forest remains from the ruins of the 1964
Alaskan earthquake. Paddlers usually see eagles, sea otters, sea lions,
and
sometimes mountains goats, black bears, orcas and humpback whales. The
highlight of the trip is searching for the beautiful comical puffins
which are normally nesting around the point of Caine's Head. (We
generally see the puffins approximately 80% of the time). This paddle
offers a choice continuing to paddle around the comical beautiful
puffins that nest at the point of Caine's
Head State park or exploring the historical Fort McGilvary and it's army
bunkers and gun emplacements left from World War II. The optional hike
is an easy 3 mile hike and there is a beautiful panoramic view of the
Gulf of Alaska at the Fort. No
experience is necessary. Note: On
morning run we normally paddle out
and take the water taxi back. On the afternoon run we normally take the
water taxi first and paddle back.
This is to take advantage of the calmest water times for paddling. The
afternoon run may sometimes have a longer water taxi ride and may return
about 4:30 or later as a result.
Mention the special rate for this trip of $20 off the regular rate for $69 per person (normally $89). This trip includes kayaks, guides, all gear, and the water taxi!

READER: PLEASE NOTE: This tour is
sometimes sold at a higher cost with just an hour or two of paddling
time by other companies which makes it appear less expensive. It is also
often sold by other companies at a lower price but there are extra
hidden costs of a water taxi of $275 to $295 per person in addition to
the base cost. Our guided paddle price is a set price, easy to
understand, and includes the water taxi in it. It is a longer, fuller
day, for less. You will find that all of our kayak paddles are less. The
reason is because we own our own water taxi, our own kayaks, and we
don’t have as much overhead.
Please take the time to compare the
options offered…. To really appreciate this beautiful area, and to have
time to paddle amongst the icebergs and calving glacier areas, you
really need the extra paddling time. Our paddle is less expensive
because we own our own water taxi vessels, and our tour provides quality
time for experiencing this amazing area. This has been listed by the
paddle magazines as the 2nd best place in the entire world to paddle! If
you want a quality, worthwhile experience, please compare the
differences and choose Miller’s Landing for your best price, best
experience, and best overall value.
This area is better explored by kayak than by tour boat because we can
take you into areas in a kayak that the tour boats cannot get into, such
as Pederson Lagoon with it’s beautiful icebergs, seals, black bears,
calving glacier and so much more….. This is the day trip of a lifetime
and we like to make sure you have adequate time to really appreciate it…
plan for a long day of 10 to 12 hours with about 4 hours of it being
comfortable boat cruising time and wildlife viewing for your best
overall experience. We have never had a client who did not love this
paddle…! This is world class paddling at it’s finest!
Mention the Special Rate of just $350 per person. Normal Rate is $450 per person per day (water taxi cost of $295 per person is INCLUDED in this cost as are all meals and gear, and guide, kayaks).
