Half Day Salmon Charters are usually about 4 to 5 hours and are offered when the salmon are close enough in to justify doing them without using too much running time. This is generally from the last week of July through September 12th. Running time can be anywhere from 15 minutes to 45 minutes, depending upon where the salmon are schooling up. Silver Salmon start their annual return to their fresh water streams in mid July and August. Silver salmon weigh on an average from 8 up to 20 lbs and are a lot of fun to catch. They put up a good fight and it is exciting to watch them when they sometimes leap in the air while reeling them in! Strong runs of pink salmon arrive between mid June through mid September, and there are always feeder king salmon present. All are good eating fish, and all are fun to catch.

Depending upon the weather, tides, location, and time of year, we normally fish for salmon in water depths from a few feet near shore to as much as 90 feet of water offshore. We often use downriggers, weights or divers depend on the depth of the fish. Oftentimes mooching will provide the best results. Usually we troll herring and sometimes lures and we may use flashers. Captain Mike is an avid salmon fisherman and has many knowledgeable and successful fishing techniques that he will share with you. His local lifelong knowledge of our area gives him an edge on finding the right combination of techniques and location for finding salmon and getting them to bite.

The Seward Silver Salmon Derby runs from the second Saturday in August for 9 days, ending on the following Sunday at noon. There are thousands of dollars to win in prizes daily, for mystery fish, largest fish in certain categories, and tagged fish. The entry fee is $10 a day or $30 for the entire Derby. Seward Silver Salmon Derby Rules require everyone on the boat to have a Derby ticket if they are fishing the Derby. Therefore if you would like to participate in the Derby on a fishing charter for silver salmon, please tell us at the time of the charter that you want to participate in the Derby so we can be sure to group you with other Derby participants on the boat you will be fishing from.
