Half Day Morning or Evening Fishing Charters

*Remember, in Alaska it doesn't get dark until after midnight in June!

Join us in the evenings on the Michael A or the Thomas Sea for some exciting salmon (in season), Black Bass, Ling Cod (after July1st) and Rockfish fishing! Or, when the salmon are off season we can fish half days for bottom fish to include black bass, rock fish, ling cod (after July 1st) red snapper and halibut.  We take a maximum of six to ten passengers on this charter, depending on the boat taken.  NOTE: The larger boat holds up to sixteen passengers and although we do not like to fish more than ten on that boat, we WILL take more than ten if it is one party.  Ask for details and rates.  One of the boats used is our new "Michael A" which is a 37 foot beautiful custom built boat with all the whistles and bells!  She has comfortable seating, plenty of deck room  for fishing, is fast and exceeds the USCG top safety rating (5 stars).  The other vessel is our new "Thomas Sea" and she is a 32 footer, with lots of deck room, full electronics, and a heated cabin.  This boat takes up to six.  We choose the boat we are taking on any given day by how many passengers have signed up and which boat is available.  We will also take passengers who do not wish to fish on these boats on a space available basis for $20 per person, but they must stay inside the cabin, not fish, and could be bumped in not enough room.  On the larger vessel, it is not a problem to add the non-fishing people but on the six passenger vessel we would not know until the day of the charter if room was available.

This charter is perfect for the person with not enough time for a full day of fishing or you simply don’t want to be out on the water all day but still want to be able to experience the beauty of Alaskan style fishing. Our boat departs daily at either 6 AM returning at 10 AM or again in the evening at 5:00 PM and returns at 9:00 PM. There is a wonderful advantage to going fishing in the late afternoon because there is not as much competition and the water is generally calmer too. Same thing with the six AM charters as we get a good head start over the other charters, and get to the fishing grounds first. The water is almost always calmer in the mornings as well, and the wildlife is easier to find! Remember that it is daylight in Alaska most of the time in the evenings! Your family and children will thoroughly enjoy going out on either of our boats, catching fish, and sightseeing Resurrection Bay’s wild life and marine animals. Even though the larger boat takes 16 passengers we limit it to 10 for fishing unless you have a private party and wish for more than 10 to go. The larger 16 passenger boat is comfortable, heated and even has music! Full electronics, marine bathroom, and an excellent crew! The 32 footer six passenger boat has full electronics, a very large deck to fish from, an excellent crew, a heated cabin, music, and a private porta potty.

Bear Glacier.... A common sight
when fishing for salmon or black bass!

Miller's Landing charters

The price is $155 per person all gear and bait included. Please purchase your fishing license before the departure time... Book early and save!  Charters are sold at $130 plus a $7 fuel surcharge if you book prior to May 1st.  * Discount are not available is using any other special.

Half Day Salmon and Black Bass Charters and Half Day Bottom Fishing Charters are usually about 4 to 4 1/2 hours and are offered from May through early October for Black Bass and from about late June through early September for salmon. Boat Running time can be 15 minutes to 45 minutes to the fishing grounds, depending on where the best fishing is. The limit is 6 salmon per person per day inside the Bay or 3 salmon per person outside the bay. When fishing on half day charters we usually fish inside the bay. If ling cod are desired (after July 1st) we have to fish outside the bay, but the ling cod are a nice trade off for the three silver salmon because they will need to be 35 inches to keep.

Half day halibut/bottom fishing charters are ideal for customers who cannot afford a full day of fishing time. Save money by booking early because they are $130 per person and a $5 fuel surcharge if booked/reserved prior to May 1st. After May 1st the charters go up to $155. The half day charters do not go out as far as the full day charters due to time constraints. Half day halibut charters target halibut, black bass, red snapper and (after July 1st) ling cod. The limits are 5 black bass, one red snapper, two halibut, and one ling cod. The ling cod must be 35 inches to keep it and can only be kept after July 1st. On the half day bottom fishing charters, the running time is approximately 35 to 40 minutes each way. The boat goes out to Cape Resurrection or Cape Aialik area (Captain’s Choice) to prime fishing areas but does not go out quite as far as the full day charters go because of the running time involved. Catching a half of a limit on a half day charter is our goal. We also allow ride-along if the wife or family want to ride along and take photos or watch for $20. Ride along are only allowed on a space available basis. If all of the seats are taken by full fare fishermen then they will be “bumped” but as long as there are open seats we welcome the ride-along. Often times we see whales, sea lions, eagles, sea otters and other exciting wildlife on the fishing charters. Miller’s Landing provides all gear and tackle and coffee on our charters. We also will fillet your fish for you and help you arrange to have it shipped and packaged professionally. We also offer one free night of fish freezing for those fishing on our own boats.

Silver Salmon start their annual return to their fresh water streams in mid July and August but can be caught in outer coastal waters starting in June. Silver salmon average from 8 up to 20 lbs and are a lot of fun to catch. State record is 26lbs. They put up a great fight on medium to light tackle and are exciting and fun to catch. It is not uncommon to catch a king salmon when fishing for silvers! We usually fish for silvers starting late June (through September). The limit is 6 per person when caught inside the bay and 3 per person outside the bay. Ling cod can also be caught (minimum size is 35 inches) but only if caught outside the bay.

Black Bass Charters are abundant during our fishing season from May to September. The daily limit per person is 5 black bass. They are a lot of fun to catch, and black bass fishing charters make a wonderful family charter because the kids have as much fun catching them as their parents! We always fish for black bass when fishing for either salmon or for halibut.... When fishing for black bass, it is often common to catch red snapper or yellow eye as well. The limit for that species is one per person per day.

Depending upon the weather, tides, location, and time of year, we normally fish for salmon in water depths from a few feet near shore to as much as 90 feet of water offshore. Usually “mooching” (drift fishing with bait or lures) will provide the best results.  Captains on the Michael A. are fun to fish with and will share their fishing techniques with you. Our local knowledge of our area gives us an edge on finding the right combination of techniques and location for finding salmon and getting them to bite.

The Seward Silver Salmon Derby runs from the second Saturday in August and ending on the following Sunday at noon. There are thousands of dollars to win in prizes daily, for mystery fish, largest fish in certain categories, and tagged fish. The entry fee is $10 a day or $50 for the entire Derby. Seward Silver Salmon Derby Rules require everyone on the boat to have a Derby ticket if they are fishing the Derby. Therefore if you would like to participate in the Derby on a fishing charter for silver salmon, please tell us at the time of the charter that you want to participate in the Derby so we can be sure to group you with other Derby participants on the boat you will be fishing from.
