Half Day Morning or Evening Fishing
Charters Remember, in Alaska it doesn't get dark until after midnight in June! |
||
Join us in the morning or evening
for 4 to 4½ hours on the Michael A or the Thomas Sea
for some exciting salmon (in season), Black Bass, Ling Cod (after
July1st) and Rockfish fishing! Or, when the salmon are off season we
can fish half days for bottom fish to include black bass, rock fish,
ling cod (after July 1st), and red snapper. The limits are 4
rockfish (one can be a red snapper and three black bass or a total
of four black bass), two halibut, and one ling cod. The ling cod
must be 35 inches to keep it and can only be kept after July 1st. There is a wonderful advantage to going fishing in the late afternoon because there is not as much competition and the water is generally calmer too. Same thing with the six AM charters as we get a good head start over the other charters, and get to the fishing grounds first. ![]() On the half day fishing charters, the running time is approximately 35 to 40 minutes each way. The boat goes out to Cape Resurrection or Cape Aialik area (Captain’s Choice) to prime fishing areas but does not go out as far as the full day. Often times we see whales, sea lions, eagles, sea otters and other exciting wildlife on these charters. Silver Salmon start their annual return to their fresh water streams in mid July and August but can be caught in outer coastal waters starting in June. Silver salmon average from 8 up to 20 lbs, the state record is 26 lbs. They put up a great fight on medium to light tackle and are exciting and fun to catch. It is not uncommon to catch a king salmon when fishing for silvers! We usually fish for silvers starting late June (through September). The limit is 6 per person when caught inside the bay and 3 per person outside the bay. Ling cod can also be caught (minimum size is 35 inches) but only if caught outside the bay. Black Bass are abundant during our fishing season from May to September. The daily limit per person is 4 black bass. They are a lot of fun to catch and black bass fishing charters make a wonderful family charter because the kids have as much fun catching them as their parents! When fishing for black bass, it is often common to catch a yellow eye rock fish (commonly known as a red snapper) as well. The limit for that species is one per person per day.
Depending upon the weather, tides, location, and time of year, we normally fish for salmon in water depths from a few feet near shore to as much as 90 feet of water offshore. We often use downriggers, weights or divers depend on the depth of the fish. Oftentimes mooching will provide the best results. Usually we troll herring and sometimes lures and we may use flashers. Captain Chance is an avid salmon fisherman and has many knowledgeable and successful fishing techniques that he will share with you. His local lifelong knowledge of our area gives him an edge in finding the right combination of technique & location to find salmon and get them to bite. The Boats: The Michael A is 36 feet, takes 10 to 16 passengers, is comfortably heated and even has music! Full electronics, marine bathroom, and an excellent crew! The Thomas Sea is 32 feet, a 6 passenger boat with full electronics, a very large deck to fish from, an excellent crew, a heated cabin, music and a private porta potty. We take a maximum of six to ten passengers on this charter, depending on the boat taken. NOTE: The larger boat holds up to sixteen passengers, we do not like to fish more than ten on that boat, we WILL take more than ten if it is one party (ask for our special group rate). We will also take passengers who do not wish to fish on these boats on a space available basis for $20 per person, but they must stay inside the cabin, not fish, and could be bumped by full fare fishermen. On the larger vessel, it is not a problem to add the non-fishing people but on the six passenger vessel we would not know until the day of the charter. |
